The Business of Art Workshop - GSLAA

Happy New Year to all!
Several of our members are also members of Greater St. Louis Art Association and recommend this workshop for your consideration.

A One-Day Workshop Devoted to The Business of Art

Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to show your work in galleries? Have you felt frustrated because you are unsure how to approach galleries for representation? Do you know what you need to do to prepare your portfolio, and yourself to make an effective approach?

"Starving to Successful Workshop" will answer these questions and many more as you prepare to increase your presence in the art market. The workshop will be presented by J. Jason Horejs, owner of Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ, and author of the book "Starving to Successful." Jason will give you pragmatic advice and concrete, actionable steps you can begin implementing immediately to become more successful in selling your art and marketing your work to galleries.

As a gallery owner Jason Horejs will help you gain insight into what a gallery owner is thinking as he or she reviews your portfolio. You will learn why the most common approaches artists make to galleries are largely ineffective. Learn what most artists fail to do in preparing their work for sale.

The Greater St. Louis Art Association, in conjunction with Paint St. Louis, will be hosting this all day workshop.

When: Saturday, February 20, 2010

Time: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM with breaks for snacks and lunch.

Where: Drury Inn & Suites Near Forest Park
2111 Sulphur Avenue (Hampton & I-44)
ST. Louis, Missouri 63139

Christmas Party at CJ Muggs

A big thank you to Nancy Muschany for these great pics of our Christmas Party at CJ Muggs.  It was a wonderful evening full of fun and tasty food.  54 people were able to attend since the weather cooperated!  The ATC's, art trading cards, were a big hit.  We plan to continue the activity at our membership meetings, so work on some 2.5" x 3.5" works of art to trade with your fellow artists.

Yesterday's masterpieces as created by the masters of today!

"Remastered" is our chance to re-imagine famous artworks of the past; yesterday's masterpieces.  Artists were challenged to create reproductions from these artisic greats in our own unique style.  The exhibit is open from November 13th through January 9th with opening receptions on November 13th and 14th from 7-10 PM and again on December 11th and 12th.  Please see website for hours and directions!

Vote for Jane Mason

reported by Jane Mason:

One of my paintings has been accepted as an option for a credit card design by the Harvard University Employee Credit Union. If you are so inclined, you could check out the credit card designs, perhaps vote for mine, and if I win, my painting would be featured on credit cards in 2010.

Anyone can vote, and apparently you can vote as often as you like. And it appears that if you are particularly smitten with any one design, that you can vote for that design four times per ballot. (Ah what a democracy!)  Anyway, here is the link if you want to check them out. The voting closes November 30. (click on the "vote" button in the middle)

If my painting wins, I could end up with $500 prize and a credit card with my painting on it -- kind of cool, I think!
