Get Well Soon, Gloria

We have a dear artist friend, Gloria Goellner, who is currently at Parkside Meadows Retirement Community, 2150 Randolph St., Room # 107, St. Charles, MO 63301, receiving rehabilitation.  I’m sure it would raise her spirits to receive cards (Get Well) from her friends.  She is 91 years old.

Jerie Artz, Arvilla Friar and Loris Butterfield - Tour De France

You are invited to the last exhibit of the "Artz Tour de France" show at  the Art on the Square building in Belleville, Il.  We have enjoyed
showing our work from our trip in May, and this 4th exhibit will be the
last of the collection being shown together.  It will be on exhibit
until the end of December.  The AOTS building is open on Saturdays and  their "Unique Boutique"  will be open for Christmas shopping as well.

If you haven't had the opportunity to see this body of work, this is
your chance!  There will be an artists reception along with the City of
Belleville Wine Tasting, Saturday evening, November 20th.  It's all
marked on the attached post card.  The artists will be present for that
event along with their photo albums and hand painted travel journals.

Hope to see you there!

Sketching at the Zoo!

Sketchers in St. Louis are invited to participate in the global drawing marathon known as World Wide SketchCrawl #29 on Saturday, October 16. Artists are going to meet up for a day of sketching the flora and fauna at the famous Saint Louis Zoo in Forest Park. The starting point will be 10am at the entrance near the parking lot on the Hwy 40/64 side of the zoo. We will sketch until about 4pm so drop in at anytime during the day and stay as long as you like. There is no charge to enter the Zoo or be in the SketchCrawl but participants might want to bring some cash for food and frosty beverages. We will try to gather for a group photo and to compare sketches at some point later in the day but it is all intended to be casual and fun. We will also upload some of the sketches to the SketchCrawl Forum. Artists in over 70 cities throughout the world are taking part in this event; from Jakarta to Denver, from Paris to Detroit and here in St. Louis too. Over a dozen sketchers from the St. Louis Drawing and Painting Meetup have already RSVPed for the event. Everyone is welcome. Just show up with your sketchbook and get your draw on.

More members are needed to sign up to display their paintings in this up-coming exhibition at CJ Muggs in Webster Groves. You can email exhibit chair, Barbara Martin Smith at studio@watercolorsmith.com or call at 314 961 6047 0r 314 580 6642, to sign up.  Paintings will be received Tuesday Oct 19, 9-10 PM (after our regular meeting 1 block away) or Wednesday, Oct 20, 9-10 AM.  Print out 2 copies of the entry form here on our web site to be prepared when you bring in your paintings.

All paintings must be framed in accordance with SLWS rules for exhibition.  See the rules by clicking here.  Basically, on wire hanger, under plexiglass, originals only. White and off-white mats are preferred for this location.  This has been a favorite venue for SLWS for many years with a nice record of sales.  In this venue, there is no entry fee or commission.  The prospective buyer will call you directly and you may remove the sold painting before the end of the show if you replace it with another comparable painting which fits the current theme.   Many of our members have met a buyer for lunch, sold their painting and hung another one in its place!

"I am looking forward to discoving how the theme WORD PLAY has inspired some creative thinking".  Barb
