Wednesday Self Help Sessions Continue to Inspire Creativity

Graphic by Lee Walter

What do the Wednesday Self Help Painters do?  They produce work that appears in exhibits including SLWS shows.  This spring, eleven Wednesday Self Help painters had 14 pieces accepted into the annual juried show at Creative Art Gallery.  Of the paintings, one received an honorable mention and another sold.   The Wednesday Self Help group provides a place to paint and a supportive atmosphere to create.  Join us!  Whether you are new to painting or are looking for inspiration, all are welcome.

Fall dates have been scheduled. The group will meet in Room 54 of Lindbergh High School, from 7-9 pm, on the following dates:

           September 3, 10, 24
           October 1, 8, 22, 29
           November 5 & 12
           December 3

A total of ten meetings will cost between $35-$40 based upon the number of participants. Please note, the group does not meet the third Wednesday of each month to allow members to attend monthly SLWS meetings.  Contact Dave Anderson at (314) 544-1774 to reserve a spot.

Taking Art to the Seniors

Diane Leszcz, Jeanne Thomas and Mary Ellen Maender (all members of the SLWS) began volunteering at area senior centers recently, conducting hour long classes with interested resident seniors.  The volunteers provide  the supplies: watercolor paper with designs drawn on them, watercolor paints and brushes.  Each senior chooses a design on a 10 x 12 inch piece of watercolor paper and with watercolor paint, brushes and a little help, creates a masterpiece!  The volunteers slip each finished painting into an 11 x 14 inch mat and everyone is delighted to see their finished piece.

The pride of accomplishment, the joy, the giggles and sparkle in the eyes of those who attend is totally rewarding for the volunteers.  The most frequently asked question is, “When are you coming again?”

Other members of the Saint Louis Watercolor Society have heard about this project and are thinking about also volunteering. Any questions or to donate art supplies, please call Diane Leszcz at (636) 349-2272.
