St. Louis Area Artist Directory
The ARTIST & GALLERY Directory is Looking for You!
The Artist & Gallery Directory
is about to embark on a quest to find some of the very best artists in the St.
Louis bi-state region.
This
is your opportunity to:
•
Be recognized among
the best
•
Expand your market and
increase sales.
•
Provide long term
exposure to the public.
•
Promote your
credibility as an artist.
•
Bring your personal
artistic vision to the attention of the
public.
This is a regional directory
limited to the BEST artists and art galleries within 125 miles (two hours
drive) of St Louis, Missouri.
All mediums of art
will be considered:
Painting (all mediums)
Drawing & Pastel
Photography
Digital Art
Printmaking
Pottery & Ceramics
Sculpture
Collage
Wood
Fiber (woven, wearable,
paper, basketry)
Leather
Jewelry
Glass
Mixed-media 2D & 3D
All work must be original and
hand-made by the artists. Absolutely no mass produced art and no foreign art.
The directory will be a
printed book, 96 to 116 pages, 8.5" X 5.5" in size. Printing will be
high quality offset on 100lb glossy paper stock. The directory will also be on
the internet where each artist's page will be displayed and linked to your
website and e-mail.
To assure the directory
exhibits the work of the very best artists this will be a juried publication
with independent judges for both 2D and 3D artwork.
To assure the directory is of
the highest quality and has a consistent look we will design the directory and
all the pages. It will be up to the artists to provide "high quality"
photographs of their art. If the images are of insufficient quality (sharpness,
exposure, color balance, composition, digital resolution) the artists will be
asked to resubmit professional quality images. If the artist and galleries do
not have access to professional photography we can arrange to photograph their
artwork for them.
We invite any artists living
within 125 mile range of St Louis to apply and be juried into the Artist
& Gallery Directory. Application requires a $25 non-refundable fee
which you can pay using PayPal or credit card. To make it easy for you to
participate, we use the "Entrythingy"
application system. You will need to have four .jpg images ready to upload and
a brief artist statement. For image specs, complete application details
and to apply click on the link below. Deadline is midnight September
28th.

Sister Jo Nemec, SSND
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our long-time member, Sister Jo Nemec, SSND.
Sister Jo joined SLWS in 1998 and served as our pictorial historian for 12 years documenting every meeting demonstration and every workshop to create 3 beautiful albums for our archives. Her cheerful disposition and ready hugs were always a welcome ray of sunshine. She served a term on the board of directors, in charge of scheduling programs, in addition to her historian position.
Her wake is this Friday,
Aug. 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the
School Sisters of Notre Dame chapel, 320 E. Ripa Ave., 63125. Her
funeral is Saturday, Sept. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the same location.
Sister Jo participated in all most all of our exhibits over the years and was a Signature Member. Here is her award winning painting from Big Splash 2007 titled Shapes and Shadows of Florida.

Daven Anderson River Series
LAST LIGHT
Watercolor and Mixed Media
32" x 24.5"
Ohio River - Pushing Downstream
On the M/V Mountain State, an AEP River Ops 6000 hp Tow Boat
No. 6 of 8 painted in an ongoing series of approximatly 40 works.
A year ago I began a series of works
which celebrate life and work on our inland waterways. Last fall I rode
a towboat for a few days pushing fifteen coal barges on the Ohio River.
Last Light and a number of others in the series resulted from
that trip. More recently I made two trips to the lower Mississippi
visiting shipyards and other sites of river activity and industry,
riding work boats and, as is the case of the above painting, boarding
vessels in mid-stream being loaded or unloaded. My intention is to
paint approximately 40 works portraying river work and life on all of
our major waterways.
Working the Rivers
A
month ago, I also became an 'official' Coast Guard artist, a position
that I am honored to hold and that allows me access to Coast Guard
vessels and activities anywhere they are active - Alaska, Antartica and
Kuwait included. I have made three trips to date with the Guard, two on
the Mississippi and one on the Missouri. I plan on riding with them in
September/October in Mobile Bay, the inland waterway system and the
Gulf (out of Mobile) and on the Cooper River and inland waterway system
(out of Charleston). I will be painting my first Coast Guard work later
this fall. The Coast Guard has placed my artistic 'bio' on its website
along with a link to my website.
I continually look for opportunities to capture subject material for
future works and hope to get out on the Tennessee and Illinois Rivers
sometime next year. In the meantime I continue to add works to the
series.
