Showboat Exhibit

Now showing at our Showboat kiosk at the Foundry in St. Charles; Judy Grewe, James Brauer and Linda Green/Metzler.

Special announcement, Linda Green/Metzler will be stepping down as chair of this venue and we need a new volunteer.  The position requires booking the use of the space by passing a sign up sheet at regular monthly meetings (or a friend could do this for you), receiving calls about availability and then contacting the scheduled participants as a reminder.  The venue chair then meets the participants at the Foundry on the change-out day, every 2 months, to oversee the retrieval and installation.  The venue is booked through January 2012 and a new volunteer could observe the October or December installation process.  Linda has it all in hand after over-seeing this venue for 4 years and she can pass on all of her knowledge.  Please call Mirka Fette, 314-933-3135, or Linda at 314-469-3205 to volunteer for this important, but not too time-consuming, position.  There is no specific term for this position - just whatever works for you.

Judy Seyfert Classes at the Missouri Botanical Garden

Saint Louis Watercolor Society member, Judy Seyfert, will be teaching three different classes at the Missouri Botanical Garden this fall.  Judy's classes are always fun, dynamic and inspirational.    Artists can register online by going to the Garden website: https://www.mobot.org/ or by calling the Garden at 577 9506.

Capturing the Landscape in Watercolor

Take a creative journey to learn to paint vibrant, expressive landscape paintings.  Under the inspiration of fall and the Garden, students will utilize color, shape, and line to capture the spirit of the landscape.   Seldom does an artist find a "picture perfect" photograph or place.   Students will learn to simplify, edit and rearrange using the elements of design to create effective compositions.  This class is for artists with some watercolor experience.  No basic skills will be taught; studio class. Designed for adults only.
Eight Fridays starting September 9th from 9:30 a.m. to noon.  No class October 14th.

The Magic of Watercolor

Paint, have fun, and learn more about watercolor than you thought possible.  Through demonstrations and exercises in composition, the expressive use of color, and pigment applications, students will learn the art of well planned yet seemingly "spontaneous" watercolors.  Learn to take your inspiration and make it into original painting.  The goal is to not just to record your inspiration but to paint it in an enthusiastic and creative way.  Beginning to intermediate level; Studio class. Designed for adults only.
Six Mondays starting September 12th from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

 Watercolor Bold and Beautiful

Using the dynamic, luminous character of watercolor students will learn to utilize bold color, shape and line to make their own unique paintings.  A variety of subjects will be covered including still lifes, landscapes, and abstracts.  Judy teaches the process of watercolor in a simple and straightforward manner.  Students are given group and individual instruction encouraging creativity while enhancing painting and compositional skills.  Beginning to intermediate levels;studio class. Designed for adults only.
Six Saturdays starting October 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Garage Sale of Joanlee Ferrar's estate

Joanlee was an art teacher and likely has many goodies in the form of furniture, art books, etc.

We're having a final garage sale at my mother's house, 15244 Kempwood Drive, 63017, on Saturday, 13 August.  This is the EVERYTHING MUST GO sale.  While we got rid of some stuff at the estate sale in June, there is still a wealth of goodies in there.  Collectibles, kitchen ware, small appliances, pictures and decorative objects, costume jewelry, garden items, fantastic books (particularly art, history, travel for both adults and kids) etc.  Basically, at least 50% of everything that furnished that house is still there and waiting for treasure hunters.

Worth special attention is the furniture still in the house.  Amongst the highlights:  a practically new, top quality leather couch, armchair and footstool that Mom paid thousands for, and we're selling for a fraction of the cost; a set of twin beds with storage underneath that tuck beneath a corner table, fantastic for kids or a guest room; a rattan bar with matching bar stools, a 1950s classic from the old Tropicana shop ready for your next tropical tiki party; a sturdy wooden kitchen table with matching captains' chairs; a whole master bedroom suite with king sized headboard, side table, and dresser.

If you know anyone who's furnishing a house or apartment at the moment, PLEASE pass this email on to them.  It's an opportunity not to miss.  But really, anyone who's up for a root around the Aladdin's cave that was Mom's house will have a good time.  Tell everyone you know!
